If your LED bathroom mirror flickers, first note when it happens: at a particular brightness, in one colour mode, immediately after switch-on or alongside other lights. That pattern helps distinguish a control or supply issue from a fault within the mirror. It does not mean you should open the mirror or replace it straight away.
If there is a burning smell, unusual heat, visible water inside, sparking or repeated tripping, stop using the mirror and arrange a qualified electrician’s assessment. For a mirror that simply varies in brightness, the checks below help you give support useful information without disturbing the installation.
Start with the controls you normally use
- Check whether the effect is visible to your eyes or appears only in a phone recording. Camera settings can produce bands or flicker in footage that do not represent what you see in the room.
- Try the mirror’s own normal lighting controls. Note whether the problem affects every white tone, one light section or just a low brightness setting.
- Notice whether other lights in the room change at the same time. Tell the electrician if they do.
- Record the product, order details and when the symptom began. A short video can help support, alongside your description of what is visible in person.
If the instructions include a restart procedure, follow it. Do not repeatedly cycle a faulty fitting, disconnect internal components or remove the mirror from the wall as an exploratory test.
A dimmer mismatch is possible, not a universal diagnosis
An LED mirror with touch dimming is not automatically compatible with an external wall dimmer. Nor does a trailing-edge dimmer suit every LED mirror. The mirror, driver and control need established compatibility; simply replacing one type of wall dimmer with another is not a reliable cure.
If flickering began after a switch or dimmer change, tell the electrician exactly what changed. Read how LED mirror dimming controls differ before choosing controls for a new installation. Use the mirror’s specified control method rather than adding a dimmer because the product is described as dimmable.
What a professional may need to check
The supply, connections, driver and lighting components can all be relevant. A loose connection is one possible cause, but it cannot be diagnosed from a blog post or a single symptom. An electrician can investigate the supply and installation; the seller can help identify compatible parts and the correct repair route for the model.

Moisture and care: useful prevention, not a repair
Ventilate after showers, dry splashes around the edge and avoid spraying cleaner directly over controls. A demister deals with condensation on its heated area; it does not make internal electronics immune to water. If water has entered the fitting, stop using it rather than trying to dry internal parts with a hairdryer.

Does flickering always mean the LED strip has failed?
No. Controls, the driver, connections or the supply can also be involved. Record the pattern and seek model-specific support.
Can I fix it by fitting a trailing-edge dimmer?
Only use a wall dimmer where compatibility has been established for the mirror. Touch dimming alone does not establish that compatibility.
Should I keep using a mirror that intermittently trips the circuit?
No. Stop using it and have the fault assessed by a qualified electrician.
